The Seminary family came together in solidarity to attend the burial of Mr. Innocent Ede, the father of Rev. Fr. Paul Edeh (Formator). It was a moment marked by faith, fraternity, and deep reflection, as we accompanied our brother priest during this painful period of loss.
The funeral rites commenced with a Solemn Holy Mass presided over by the Bishop, who was joined by a large number of priests, religious, and lay faithful. The gathering reflected the unity of the Church and the respect accorded to the memory of Mr. Innocent Ede.
During the homily, the homilist offered a profound reflection on the realities of life and death. He recalled the familiar saying that not everyone who enters the seminary will become a priest. While affirming the truth of this, he added an even greater truth—that every human being, regardless of status, age, or achievements, must one day face death. His words invited all present to meditate on the brevity of life and the need to remain spiritually prepared for our final return to God.
At the end of the Mass, the Bishop expressed heartfelt appreciation to the Seminary community. He commended their beautiful and well-coordinated singing, noting that the solemnity and dignity of the liturgy were greatly enhanced by the choir’s prayerful rendition of hymns. His words of praise highlighted the important role the Seminary plays in uplifting the spiritual tone of major liturgical celebrations.
Afterwards, Rev. Fr. Paul Edeh addressed the congregation with gratitude and emotion. He thanked the Bishop, his brother priests, seminarians, religious, friends, and the entire lay faithful for their presence, support, and prayers. He acknowledged the sacrifices many made to stand by him in this difficult moment. He concluded by earnestly requesting that everyone continue to remember his father in their prayers, praying that God may grant Mr. Innocent Ede a peaceful repose and eternal rest.
