On Monday, October 6, 2025, the Auxiliary Bishop of Enugu, Most Rev. Ernest Obodo, officially opened the 2025/2026 Academic and Formation Year at St. Bernard Seminary, Nchatancha-Nike, Enugu. The occasion was marked by the blessing and commissioning of the newly established St. Callistus Clinic, a significant milestone in the seminary’s commitment to the holistic care of its community.

In his homily, Bishop Obodo drew from the day’s first reading, emphasizing the importance of obedience to formators as a reflection of obedience to God. Referencing the story of Jonah, who resisted divine instruction, the Bishop urged seminarians to follow the guidance of their superiors with humility and trust. He also encouraged them to emulate the Good Samaritan, cultivating compassion and brotherly love within the seminary community.

The commissioning of St. Callistus Clinic was a highlight of the event. Bishop Obodo praised the Rector, Very Rev. Fr. Dr. Liberatus Isife, and the formation team for their dedication to the seminary’s growth and the formation of future priests. The clinic represents a vital step in ensuring the health and well-being of seminarians, priests, and staff.

In a generous gesture, Bishop Obodo donated ₦500,000 to support the seminarians’ feeding program, ₦1,000,000 toward the construction of a new seminary chapel, and ₦100,000 each to two seminarians who earned first-class honors in the previous academic year. Fr. Isife expressed profound gratitude for the Bishop’s unwavering support, fatherly care, and commitment to the seminary’s mission.

Dr. Valentine Udorah, appointed to manage the St. Callistus Clinic, pledged to provide free medical care and nursing support to priests, seminarians, and lay staff. He committed to leveraging his expertise to make the clinic a cornerstone of care for the seminary community.

The event concluded with prayers, blessings, and group photographs, as the seminary community expressed enthusiasm for the new academic year and the clinic’s role in enhancing their well-being.
